Al Berry, PT, OCS

Al Berry, affectionately known as “Big Al,” is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Health Related Professions with a professional degree in Physical Therapy and an undergrad focus in Exercise Physiology and Political Science. Before joining Main Line Spine, Al has been a practicing Physical Therapist with 30 years of experience in a variety of settings. His passion and specialized niche have always been in working with orthopedic and older patients, especially those with spinal and musculoskeletal dysfunction.

Al is board certified as an orthopedic specialist (OCS) through The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) and an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT).

Early in his career, Al worked as an Associate Director & Spine Rehab Team Leader at the renowned University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Sports Medicine. At that time, he co-wrote a textbook chapter in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Clinics of North America entitled “Management of Low Back and Sacroiliac Pain in High School and College Athletes.” He was also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Health Related Professions from 1993 through 1998.

In 1996, he became a Coordinator and Assistant Director of an extensive outpatient practice in western Pennsylvania. At that time, he gave numerous lectures and continuing education courses on the treatment of various musculoskeletal disorders, including the diagnosis and treatment of acute lower back pain.

In 2000, Al founded a healthcare staffing firm providing contracted rehabilitation therapy services to numerous facilities (long term care/home care) and institutions throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Additionally, over the last 20 years, he has become a health care policy advocate and became a certified lobbyist through the Association of Government Relations Professionals, holding several leadership positions during his tenure. This position has allowed him to establish a wide array of critical relationships with government politicians and government relations professionals in Harrisburg and Washington, DC. He can be periodically heard on WWDB AM 860 as co-host of a regional radio show discussing healthcare and policy amongst other topics.
